The Cav Daily Puts Al Groh On Blast!

I suppose one of the reasons the Cavalier Daily is such a well-respected news-stuff can be chalked up to its tendency to avoid the sort of sensationalist raving that aspiring journalists absolutely live for in college. Maybe they still leave that to The Declaration. I don't know- the Dec doesn't send me any alumni mail. I know all about this circumspect editorial nature- in 2000, I guess I wrote the second-most glowing review of "Kid A," but I wasn't allowed to go ahead with the original A+ rating due to the A&E editor's questioning of whether it was better than "The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill." Obviously, when a white girl in college is posing this query at the turn of the 21st century, it's rhetorical. Likewise, my write-up of "The Blueprint" was docked down to an A- in the same issue where a Tori Amos cover album got the same grade.

Which is why it's refreshing every now and again to check in and see some true scorched earth stuff like this thing. If you a: don't have the time to read through it all or b: are too hungover to do such a thing, Paul Wiley's point can be traced to this- if there's anything Virginia fans love more than winning, it's keeping a moral high ground.

What I really love is the timing- yeah, the Miami loss was disheartening on many levels, but hey, five wins already! We're no longer scared to look at bowl projections! But really, I can't help but agree somewhat with his point- you know, if we're gonna thug it out like Florida State and VT in their glory days, the least we could do is win like them.
