Following the Steelers-Redskins Monday night game, one in which, depending on who's telling the story, as many as 25-30,000 Pittsburgh supporters showed up to FedEx Field waving those infernal terrible towels, the Redskins organization has taken action.
With the Cowboys coming to town Sunday for another nationally televised game, resident Redskins Park genius Vinny Cerrato has hatched cunning a plan to keep the stadium free of Dallas-loving riffraff. Via the Bog:
"Everybody else could [get tickets]," Vinny Cerrato replied (to a caller on his radio show) [approximately]. "All the Pittsburgh people could. You must have been calling the wrong people....We're going to have nice towels so we won't have the yellow Pittsburgh towels in the stadium. We're going to have burgundy Redskins towels. So buy tickets so they don't sell them to Cowboys fans."And some people have the audacity to suggest that Cerrato isn't very good at his job. Not only can he be the general manager of an NFL franchise, he's also a radio personality. Equal parts Matt Millen and Colin Cowherd is a lot harder than it looks.
Cerrato ... made repeated pleas to fans [yesterday] morning not to sell their tickets to Cowboys fans; he responded to one complaint about the fan base's no-show last week by saying "just stay there and vote, everybody's who's listening just keep voting for the Redskins Ticket."
In any case, ESPN 980 will be passing out 50,000 burgundy towels so commence with the team spirit, Redskins supporters. Sure, getting to the game is a monumental hassle, and the stadium experience sucks, frankly, but surely you'll overlook that for the greater good.
Oh, and Vinny, you might want to send a few towels to the bookmakers; they have the 'Skins getting two points at home.
