Welcome to the FanHouse live blog of this afternoon's heavyweight title fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Hasim Rahman, where we'll provide round-by-round updates of all of the action from the fight in Germany.
The fight begins around 5 p.m. Eastern and the live blog begins after the jump.
Rahman is making his way to the ring. Rahman is in the ring. Klitschko is making his way to the ring. Klitschko is in the ring. They're standing for the national anthem.
Michael Buffer is doing the introductions in both English and German. I have no idea if he speaks German fluently, but he sounds convincing enough. He only says "Let's get ready to rumble" in English, though.
Round 1: This fight is underway. Both fighters do a little bit of jabbing early, and both look like they're in pretty good shape. Klitshcko lands a good jab that backs Rahman off. Big left hook from Klitschko knocks Rahman back again. Rahman isn't blocking Klitschko's left, and that's going to give him a problem if he doesn't fix it. Good combination from Klitschko. Rahman hits in the clinch. Big 1-2 from Klitschko. Klitschko has landed 17 jabs, to 2 for Rahman. Another big couple of shots and this has been an easy round to score: Klitschko, 10-9.
Round 2: There's already a little swelling on Rahman's left eye. Rahman clinches early and lands a rabbit punch. Rahman is going to need to get a lot more aggressive if he's going to have a chance in this fight. Big jab from Klitschko! Rahman is doing way too much clutching and hitting to the back of the head, and he finally gets warned for it. Lennox Lewis notes on the TV commentary that Rahman is wide open for an uppercut if Klitschko wants to throw one. The jabs from Klitschko are devastating. Klitchko has landed about twice as many punches as Rahman in this round, and with more power. Another easy round to score, Klitschko, 10-9.
Round 3: Klitschko's jabs are so long and so powerful that he's just backing Rahman away at will. Klitschko is just teeing off, with Rahman on the ropes. This is either rope-a-dope from Rahman or a butt-kicking, and I think it's the latter. Rahman just has no answer at all for Klitschko's jabs. Rahman isn't even blocking the jabs, they're just landing flush on his face. Rahman's head has snapped back violently as a result of jabs several times. Compubox says it's 27-2 this round in terms of jabs landed. Rahman did so little this round that I'm going to call it for Klitschko, 10-8.
Round 4: Rahman finally throws a couple of jabs, they weren't very impressive but at least he's trying. Klitschko lands more jabs and occasionally sprinkles in a right hand. This has been a fairly uneventful round, with Klitschko landing a few jabs and not expending much energy. It's another easy round to score, Klitschko, 10-9.
Round 5: Klitschko picks up right where he left off, landing jabs in the first few seconds of the round. Big left hook from Klitschko! Klitschko is just completely dominating this fight, and Rahman isn't doing anything. It's an embarrassing showing for Rahman. Nice 1-2 from Klitschko, knocks Rahman back toward the ropes. Rahman is clutching and trying to hold on, but he really can't do anything on offense. Another easy round to score: Klitschko, 10-9.
Round 6: Down goes Rahman! A left-right early in the round knocks him on his back. He's back up but he's in trouble. Klitchko has him against the ropes and in trouble. Rahman is just trying to hold on, with two minutes left in the round. The round is half over and Rahman is just trying to block punches, he's completely stopped throwing. Klitschko is landing a lot of heavy hands. Big right from Klitschko! Rahman has yet to land a punch this round, with 30 seconds left. Klitschko, 10-7.
Round 7: The ref asked Rahman if he wants to continue and Rahman said yes. Rahman is just doing nothing at all, and this fight may be stopped soon. Rahman is against the ropes, and Klitschko is pummeling him! It's over! Wladimir Klitschko beats Hasim Rahman by seventh-round TKO.
