Gus Frerotte might be unhappy about it, but, as you would expect, Tavaris Jackson will be starting at quarterback when the Vikings face the Falcons on Sunday.
"It's up to coach," Frerotte said. "Obviously I'm not happy about it. I mean, anybody that's competitive wants to be the guy that's out there. I put a lot of hard work and a lot of effort into this. But it's coach's decision, and I'll be out there to help this team no matter what."
Frerotte says his back injury is fully healed, and since he was starting before the injury, he believes he should be starting this week. But the simple reality is that Jackson threw for four touchdowns last week in the best game any Vikings quarterback has put together in several years. When you consider that Frerotte had thrown four touchdowns in his past five starts, head coach Brad Childress had no choice but to see if Jackson's outstanding game is a sign he's matured and is figuring things out, or if it was just a fluke.

If it proves to be a fluke, Frerotte will be back behind center next week. But if Jackson plays well again this week, it's hard to imagine any scenario where he won't be starting through the playoffs.
