Arizona Prisoners Allowed Rare Chance to Watch NFC Championship

It's not very fun to be a prisoner in Maricopa County, Arizona. Sheriff Joe Arpaio forces the inmates to wear pink underwear (it makes them tougher?) and he rarely lets them watch anything on television that is remotely sports related. But he likes the Cardinals enough that he's willing to cut on Fox for a few hours today, so the inmates can watch the mighty Buzzsaw try and make their first Super Bowl.

The county's 10,000 inmates, including those at Tent City, will be allowed to watch Sunday's game ... an unprecedented move, as Arpaio normally permits them to watch only The Weather Channel, C-SPAN and The Food Network.

Arpaio issued the order Friday, yielding to the Valleywide fervor that has surrounded the game.

For one, I think this is a good thing; you're talking about not only a local team, but a big national sporting event. And while I tend to agree that too much football for a bunch of criminals on lockdown is probably a bad idea, this type of game comes off as a holiday more than anything, and that's just good for morale.
