TAMPA, Fla. -- The Cardinals and Steelers had their first appearances in front of the media horde here on Monday, and my favorite quote was a simple reminder from Arizona safety Adrian Wilson that, to him, the Super Bowl isn't a party. It's a football game.
"We're not here to enjoy the Super Bowl. We're here to win it," Wilson said. "We don't want to be second-best."
When the Cardinals were a lousy team, Wilson labored as one of the most underrated players in the league. Now that the Cardinals are in the Super Bowl, he's finally starting to get some of the recognition he deserves as one of the league's most complete defensive backs. And Wilson says staying in Arizona through the hard times and working with the same guys year after year makes it even more rewarding to get to the Super Bowl now.
"Whenever you have guys who you can play with for a number of years, it is always easy knowing that they are going to be in the right places," Wilson said. "That is the main thing that you want to have on any team, regardless of being on offense or defense. You want to keep that continuity."
For Wilson, continuity has meant going from playing on a perpetual loser to playing in the Super Bowl. But he needs to win one more game before he'll celebrate.
