Eddie Rios hasn't really had a great basketball season. He's been suspended twice and he's only averaging about four points per game (in 12 minutes of play.) And after being arrested for "grand theft" and burglary, it appears that he's really been on a hijacking tear, having stolen several thousand dollars worth of electronic equipment from other Miami students.
As Chas noted, Rios was originally tagged with some pretty serious crimes; to top everything off, Rios also confessed to stealing a bunch of other items when police got a hold of him. I suppose now would be the (in)appropriate time to make a joke about paying college players. But, clearly, I'm above that. But really, why's he stealing when he's already on salary?
Rios helped steal four laptops, two Xbox game consoles and a credit card among other items, the report said. He was arrested and booked Wednesday on two counts of burglarizing an unoccupied dwelling, and two counts of grand theft.
Police responded to a burglary call at the University of Miami's Mahoney Residential building Tuesday night and spotted Rios getting into a car, the report said. Rios and the driver, Stephanie Elizabeth Flores, 19, were pulled over and found with a Dell laptop computer that did not belong to either of them.
Plus, Rios was a top recruit in the state of Florida and supposed to help Miami win an ACC title. It's always a sad story when you see a young kid with a bright future turn to illegal activity for no apparent reason.
