Four months after Tom Cable became the Oakland Raiders' interim head coach, the team finally removed the "interim" from his title today, officially declaring that Cable is the Raiders' coach for the 2009 season. And on his first official day as head coach, both Cable and the team were quick to promise big changes for a franchise that has lost at least 11 games in each of the last six seasons.
Visitors to Raiders.com are greeted with a video showing Cable making the following statement:
I don't have a problem with Cable, who might turn out to be a fine head coach. But I have a hard time seeing these Raiders become a great football team any time soon. Al Davis has turned the Raiders into a disorganized mess of a front office, and when the front office is a disorganized mess, the team on the field usually follows suit. If the Raiders become a great football team, Cable is Vince Lombardi.
