ALPG Chief: Anna Rawson 'Needs to Think Before She Opens Her Mouth'

Last we heard from Anna Rawson, she was waxing historical on an Australian radio station, explaining to the laypeople how far women's professional golf has come in the last quarter-century. Specifically, how the "tour has got so much better with so many young stars and great players," even though "the mentality unfortunately amongst the media and the industry hasn't changed."

And to prove her point, Rawson pointed out that the media still "think we're at 25 years ago when the tour was full of, you know, a lot of dykes and unattractive females nobody wanted to watch.'' If only English was Rawson's first language we could've avoided the cultural misunderstanding. Oh, wait.

Whatever, Rawson has since apologized but Australian Ladies Professional Golf (ALPG) chief executive Warren Sevil who, according to FOXSports Australia, "... sat through her media grilling after which she burst into tears," seemed quite content to watch Rawson take a public flogging.
"She was not misunderstood. She said it,'' Sevil said later. "She did not preface her statement with it being the opinion of society so it had to be perceived as her comment. ... From my perspective it's disappointing because she made those comments. I took them being about the Australian media and Australian golf industry.''

"What went on in the media centre had to happen because she has been outspoken in the past and maybe she needs to think before she opens her mouth,'' he said. ...No doubt the issue has been the perception in the past.

"But if she is going to make such a comment, she needs to be clear in her wording that it's not taken the way it was.''
If the goal here is to teach Rawson a lesson, well, mission accomplished.
