Devils 3, Rangers 0: Scott Clemmensen has been fantastic for the Devils this season in the absence of Martin Brodeur, and on Monday night he registered his first shutout in New Jersey's 3-0 win over the Rangers. Zach Parise picked up a pair of goals for the Devils, while Bobby Holik scored what proved to be the game-winner midway through the second period.
The highlight of the night for the Rangers was probably Colton Orr's fight with Mike Rupp at the 3:56 mark of the second period. It's been a difficult stretch for the blue shirts, as they've now lost five in a row and have been outscored 22-5 in the process.
Flames 6, Canadiens 2: Not one of the best performances in the 100-year history of the Montreal Canadiens, as they were pounded by Calgary, 6-2. Montreal was done in by a dismal second period where it surrendered a pair of shorthanded goals and was outshot by a 20-4 margin. The Canadiens have now lost eight of their past 10 games, while Calgary was able to snap its four-game losing streak.
Andy McDonald Signs Extension in St. Louis
Andy McDonald and the Blues came to an agreement on a contract extension Monday afternoon, inking a four-year, $18.8 million deal to keep the 31-year-old center in St. Louis. He's played in just 16 games this season due to a broken leg suffered back in November, and has recorded six goals and 18 points.
Acquired by the Blues in December, 2007, McDonald has registered 85, 78 and 52 points the past three seasons. He seems excited about continuing his career in St. Louis:
"I'm excited with the direction that this franchise is going, and we have nothing but good things ahead of us," he said. "Negotiations started a while back and I really wanted to re-sign with St. Louis."Currently the Blues occupy the bottom spot in the Western Conference, but because every team is in the playoff hunt, they remain only six points out of the final playoff spot.
It's certainly fair to wonder where this team would be this season had it not been for the injuries suffered by McDonald, Paul Kariya, Erik Johnson and Eric Brewer, not to mention the red carpet that sabotaged the season of Manny Legace.
