Paternity suits are not that uncommon in professional athletics (or in life really) and Darren McFadden, last year's first round pick of the Oakland Raiders, has had an interesting one filed against him in Oakland.Kerri Lynette Williams attempted to file, via her lawyer, an anonymous paternity suit against McFadden (originally the case was filed as Jane Doe v. John Doe) but a judge overturned it and forced Ms. Williams to file against McFadden publicly.
Kevin Hinkley, a Fort Smith attorney, argued in a motion filed Tuesday that McFadden's status as a wellknown public figure will bring undue attention to his client, who is Kerri Lynette Williams, as well as McFadden and the 11-month-old boy. It's unfortunate news, for McFadden, to become embroiled in this sort of public questioning about whether or not he claims a child as his own. On the other hand, it's very bizarre that the plaintiff in this case would attempt to keep both names out of the public's eye, assuming she really wanted to leverage the case into the truth.
McFadden, 21, openly admits he is the father of the child, according to the petition to establish paternity and motion for child support.
On the other hand, compared with all the heavy doses of celebrity-athlete news that have been bombarding the media these days, there's a decent chance that this one slips under the radar.
