Fred Taylor is no longer employed by the only NFL team he has ever suited up for, as the Jaguars announced today that they have released the veteran.Taylor amassed over 11,000 yards in his 11-year career with the Jaguars, but that history didn't mean much, apparently, in the face of the running back's impending cap cost.
Taylor was scheduled to make about $6 million next season, so getting rid of the 11-year veteran was no surprise since he had clearly become the second option behind Maurice Jones-Drewf.Also: Taylor will probably take any re-signing attempt as a tiny affront, considering they just let him go. The Jaguars decision was clearly made easier by Jones-Drew's presence and shows their willingness to slice and dice personnel this offseason based on the team's poor overall performance in 2008.
The Jaguars might try to re-sign the 33-year-old back. But Taylor has made it clear he still believes he can be a starter in the NFL.
