U.S. President Barack Obama hopped on Air Force One earlier today for a quick trip to Ottawa to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The trip is the first official Ahead of the trip, the President sat for an interview with the CBC's Peter Mansbridge, a media personality who's roughly on par with being the Walter Cronkite of Canada. At the close of the interview, one that covered some weighty topics of concern like the current administration's position on NAFTA and some of the "Buy American" clauses in the recently signed stimulus package, Mansbridge couldn't help but mention that the President has yet to see his first hockey game.
Obama,who is well known to favor basketball, told Mansbridge that he was, "looking forward to making it happen at some point," though he made no specific promises as to exactly when that might happen. Still, that didn't stop Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis from throwing out a red carpet invite to the President:
We need action on this matter of national importance ... Consider this an open invitation to see Washington working at its finest. Where citizens are working hand in hand with leadership. A true economic plan that has gelled. A place where change has come! Come on out to a Capitals game. You deserve to have some fun and to see a winner in Washington!One thing is for sure: watching Alex Ovechkin and the first place Capitals has to be more entertaining that sitting through yet another loss from the Washington Wizards, currently mired in last place in the NBA's Eastern Conference at 12-42.
