Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree has decided to run for NFL scouts after all.
Crabtree, one of the most talented players in this year's NFL draft, found out Friday that he has a stress fracture in his foot that will require surgery. The initial plan was to have the surgery immediately and refrain from running for 10 weeks, but in an effort to ensure he doesn't slide down too far on draft boards, he will run at the Texas Tech pro day workout.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Crabtree isn't feeling pain in the foot and thinks he can run for scouts next month. If he does have surgery -- which seems likely -- he'll be out 10 weeks, so he could have the surgery after the draft and still be ready to go in time for training camp.
Crabtree is a great route-runner with great hands, but he isn't a burner, and his 40-yard dash time probably won't be among the best of the wide receivers in this year's draft. But he apparently thinks his speed is sufficient to impress NFL teams, and he doesn't want to miss the opportunity to show it off.
