Blake Griffin, arguably the best player in the country right now, will not play tonight when Oklahoma plays its first game after losing to Texas Saturday.Griffin suffered a concussion and only played part of the game Saturday, but received a "clean" bill of health. Still, his status for tonight's game remained in question. Now it's official, he's out. Sooner head coach Jeff Capel has stated that there's no real timetable for Griffin's return, and frankly, that's a smart move.
Oklahoma is locked into the NCAA tournament -- although not necessarily a No. 1 seed at this point -- and risking further injury to their best player would be a seriously erroneous coaching maneuver.
That being said, Bill Self has to feel a whole heck of a lot better about Kansas' chances against the Sooners tonight. And unfortunately, most of us probably feel a whole heck of a lot worse about the exciting nature of tonight's Big 12 showdown.
Update: Holly Rowe is reporting on SportsCenter that over the past two days, Griffin has not passed the "Standard Assessment of Concussion" test that is administered in the preseason for a baseline; Griffin is "improving" though.
