So what's three million dollars a year between friends?The Titans have apparently upped their offer to Albert Haynesworth in an attempt to keep him before free agency starts on Friday. Before the Titans had been offering four years, $36 million, but they are also aware that Haynesworth wants to be the highest paid defensive lineman in the league--which would mean he would need to average more than Jared Allen's $12.3 million per year deal.
The Nashville City Paper is reporting that Haynesworth is looking for $35 million guaranteed, which is roughly $10 million more than what the Titans have offered.
Here's a prediction: if the Titans don't get Haynesworth re-upped by Friday, either they, or someone else, will be paying Haynesworth significantly more than Allen's deal. Thanks to franchise tags flying everywhere and Nnamdi Asomugha's landmark deal, there is no one else hitting the free agent market that comes close to Haynesworth's game-changing ability. If Haynesworth starts to get offers from elsewhere, he'll end up with a break the bank deal.
Maybe that deal will come from Tennessee, but every day that gets closer to Friday makes it a little less likely that No. 92 will be wearing Titans' blue next year.
