The draft has become one of the biggest events of the year for NFL fans. Maybe because everybody's a winner on draft day, or maybe because hope springs eternal and all that. Whatever the reason, we're fully trying to horn in on the action. Round 2 of the FanHouse mock draft follows. And we'd like to stress "mock."

  • 1. Lions: Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia
Detroit has plenty of needs, and quarterback is one of them. (Previously: Matthew Stafford)
    -- Bruce Ciskie

  • 2. Rams: Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia
    See above. (Previously: Eugene Monroe)
    -- Matt Snyder

  • 3. Chiefs: Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest
Arguably the safest pick in the draft, and will immediately upgrade the middle of the Chiefs' defense. (Previously: Brian Orakpo)
    -- Shane Bacon

  • 4. Seahawks: Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech
So he's hurt. Whatever. He's going to run the 40, he's going to run well and if there's a chance he could get better after healing up, well, yikes. Seahawks still love the guy. (Previously: Michael Crabtree)
    -- Will Brinson

  • 5. Browns: Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State CB
Sure, Jenkins didn't run a great 40 at the combine but he's still the best corner in the draft. Put differently: if you're a Browns' fan, who would you rather see, Jenkins or Brandon McDonald? (Previously: Malcolm Jenkins)
    -- SB

  • 6. Bengals: Jason Smith, OT, Baylor
Cincy's offensive line has been decimated by injuries and inconsistency in recent seasons. (Previously: B.J. Raji)
    -- BC

  • 7. Raiders: Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri
Oakland has already parted ways with Ronald Curry and Javon Walker could be next. Plus, Al Davis loves the thought of giving JaMarcus Russell a legit vertical threat. (Previously: Aaron Curry)
    -- Adam Gretz

  • 8. Jaguars: Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss
Let the Andre Smith free fall begin. The Jags, recognizing that they need to be safe rather than risk the upside of Smith, take the next best option for the o-line. (Previously: Andre Smith)
    -- WB

  • 9. Packers: Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB, Texas
Aaron Rodgers might like an offensive lineman here, but probably wouldn't mind playing with a defense, too. (Previously: Jason Smith)
    -- BC

  • 10. 49ers: Everette Brown, DE, Florida State
Manny Lawson is still raw and the 49ers are still a 3-4 team. (Previously: Jeremy Maclin)
    -- AG

  • 11. Bills: Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State
Different guy, same story: Schobel's not getting any younger and it's hard to pass up a talent like Maybin here. (Previously: Everette Brown)
    -- WB

  • 12. Broncos: B.J. Raji, NT, Boston College
When you go through an entire season without a defense, this seems like as good a place as any to start. (Previously: Ray Maualuga)
    -- Josh Alper

  • 13. Redskins: Ebon Britton, OT, Arizona
Chris Samuels and Jon Jansen are on the downsides of solid NFL careers and Britton would fill an obvious need along the o-line. (Previously: Aaron Maybin)
    -- MS

  • 14. Saints: James Laurinaitis, OLB, Ohio St.
Just like last week, New Orleans could use a safety, but there aren't any that merit going this early. That said, any upgrade to the defense helps. (Previously: Vontae Davis)
    -- Tom Mantzouranis

  • 15. Texans: Brian Cushing, OLB, USC
To recap from v1.0: in real life, Houston probably tries to trade down, but there's certainly room on the roster for a really good linebacker. (Previously: Brian Cushing)
    -- Stephanie Stradley

  • 16. Chargers: Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
It sounds like the team and LaDainian Tomlinson are talking over all their problems, and Jackson will bookend Shawne Merriman nicely. (Previously: Knowshon Moreno)
    -- WB

  • 17. Jets: Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois
The name changes but the point remains: if Rex Ryan wants the Jets defense to resemble those successful Ravens' squads, he'll need some cover cornerbacks. (Previously: D.J. Moore)
    -- JA

  • 18. Bears: Andre Smith, OL, Alabama
Enough is enough. He'll be fine. (Previously: Percy Harvin)
    -- MS

  • 19. Buccaneers: Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland
And suddenly Luke McCown doesn't seem like such a bad option. (Previously: Peria Jerry)
    -- AG

  • 20. Lions: Ray Maualuga, LB, USC
Ernie Sims would appreciate the gesture. (Previously: Clay Matthews)
    -- BC

  • 21. Eagles: Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia
Brian Westbrook and Correll Buckhalter won't play forever, and Moreno would hopefully mean Andy Reid wouldn't abandon the run altogether. (Brandon Pettigrew)
    -- Enrico Campitelli Jr.

  • 22. Vikings: Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State
Pettigrew won't run past anybody, but he's the best blocking tight end in the draft and he'll catch anything thrown in the immediate vicinity. (Mark Sanchez)
    -- JJ Cooper

  • 23. Patriots: D.J. Moore, CB, Vanderbilt
With Tom Brady allegedly on schedule, upgrading the defense is a priority. (Previously: Alphonso Smith)
    -- AG

  • 24. Falcons: Clay Matthews, LB, USC
Last time it was Larry English, but whoever Atlanta takes here, it'll likely be Keith Brooking's replacement. (Previously: Larry English)
    -- JC

  • 25. Dolphins: Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina
Nicks has been described as a Hines Ward and Anquan Boldin-type player. Which also makes him a Bill Parcells-type player. (Previously: Hakeem Nicks)
    -- AG

  • 26. Ravens: Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest
Chris McAlister has been released and Samari Rolle is in the twilight of his career. (Previously: Darrius Heyward-Bey)
    -- SB

  • 27. Colts: Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi
Indy could also begin the search for Marvin Harrison's eventual successor (even if he remains with the team), but finding a big body up front is an option here too. (Previously: James Laurinaitis)
    -- MS

  • 28. Eagles: Brian Robiskie, WR, Ohio St.
Donovan McNabb wants playmakers and Robiskie, who turned in a solid combine, could be that guy. He doesn't have the athleticism of, say, Randy Moss, but he does everything well. (Previously: Michael Oher)
    -- EC

  • 29. Giants: Percy Harvin, WR, Florida
Dear Sinorice Moss, this is what we were hoping for when we drafted you in '06. (Previously: Kenny Britt)
    -- BC

  • 30. Titans: Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee
If the word on the street is true about Albert Haynesworth, Ayers makes sense. (Previously: Tyson Jackson)
    -- JC

  • 31. Cardinals: Beanie Wells, RB, Ohio State
Even though Arizona hasn't ruled out keeping Edgerrin James, he's not an every-down NFL back. In fact, he hasn't been for some time. (Previously: Beanie Wells)
    -- MS

  • 32. Steelers: Alex Mack, C, California
Mack is the best offensive lineman on the board and he can play guard while Justin Hartwig capably mans the center position. (Previously: Alex Mack)
    -- JC
