Fantasy baseball draft season is coming, so you best be prepared by delving through every major player on each team. Fantasy FanHouse is here to help with a quick once-over.

Meet the ...
Worst team in baseball. Much like the 2008 incarnation, there are very few bright spots on the 2009 San Diego Padres. Jake Peavy is obviously awesome (although he does have a lot of mileage already), Adrian Gonzalez has been quite consistent the past few years, Chase Headley is dreamy if you're one of those folks that are obsessed with prospects (/raises hand), and Heath Bell might be able to save some games ... if the Pads can get him a lead.

However, the reality is you don't want to depend on many folks on this squad; there's just not much of a market for decent hitters in a pitchers' park, nor is there any love for pitchers whose team can't get them a lead.

The Breakout
Headley, as I've mentioned, is a guy I heart. A lot. Most people will tell you that he's a year away. I tend to disagree. But I think the best value you can get with the Pads this season is going to come with, gulp, Jody Gerut. Yes, that's right. He smashed the ball after arriving out west and his post-break numbers, coupled with his outside-425 draft ranking, make him a guy that could be tremendous value. If you can pick up 20 homers and 10 steals from a guy that's not even getting drafted, especially in a larger league, you're going to be feeling pretty good about life. And worst case is, he fails. Don't cost nothin'.

The Bust
I'm not going to say that the aforementioned Gonzalez is going to be bad -- he won't. He's probably going to flirt with 30-100. And that sounds nice, doesn't it? Well, sure it does ... unless you drafted him banking on 35-120 (close to what he posted last year). In which case, well, it doesn't look all that great. Especially when you're taking him early in the third round.

The Lineup
1. Jody Gerut, CF
2. Brian Giles, RF
3. Kevin Kouzmanoff, 3B
4. Adrian Gonzalez, 1B
5. Chase Headley, LF
6. David Eckstein, 2B
7. Nick Hundley, C
8. Luis O. Rodriguez, SS

The Rotation
1. Jake Peavy
2. Chris Young
3. Cha Seung Baek
4. Kevin Correia
5. Mark Prior

The Bullpen
CL - Heath Bell
SU - Cla Meredith
SU - Justin Hampson

The Skinny
• There's just not much to like. I do like Peavy, because I think he'll be relatively undervalued in drafts, and he's blatantly going to get traded, which should spike his value. Young seems like a decent pick as well -- freak injuries forced him to miss a lot of last year. Bell is a nice sleeper option for saves ... there just won't be many.

• Giles is too old, you've heard my thoughts on Gonzo (if he falls, obviously, he's a nice pick though). Kouzmanoff is a little overhyped for his actual talents, I think. You may note Prior at the fifth rotation spot; that may be "unpossible" but I can dream. Plus, you're not finding any value there anyway. Gerut, as I've mentioned, is cheap and outstanding value.

• And finally, if you draft Eckstein, Snyder will probably cry himself to sleep, and I won't feel good about it either.
