In the next few weeks, I'm sure we'll see a ton more quasi-injuries that will make the less knowledgeable fans freak out. We've already had Johan Santana, Milton Bradley, Grady Sizemore, Kerry Wood and Brad Hawpe report "injuries" that likely wouldn't sideline them if this was the regular season, and now we can add Brandon Webb to the list. The Diamondbacks' ace was scratched from his scheduled Friday start due to stiffness in his throwing forearm. Apparently he was toying with some breaking stuff the other day in his bullpen session, and he just felt some tightness.
"I don't know if it was from throwing a few cutters there, messing around, or what, but it was there a couple of days," he said. "Today was a lot better. I feel pretty good about it."His manager, Bob Melvin, also displayed very little concern over the tight forearm in question.
Said Melvin: "I don't see it as an issue at all."At this point in the season, I think we all need to take a step back and enjoy a little reality. Real baseball doesn't start for another five weeks. The real players are getting themselves ready for the real games, so if there is any reason whatsoever to sit out a game, the stars are going to sit out. Brandon Webb isn't going to win or lose his job in Spring Training, so the most important thing is to take every precaution necessary and ensure a healthy 2009 regular season.
