The University of Iowa has had its run-ins with the law over recent years, and as a result, Kirk Ferentz has been pretty tough on any player who runs afoul of the law. Get busted for public intoxication? That's a minimum four-game suspension. Not even his seed is exempt from these rules. So it's no surprise that Iowa receiver Shaun Prater has been suspended indefinitely following his OWI arrest early Saturday morning. What is somewhat surprising, however, was Prater's excuse to the cops upon being pulled over. Yeah, he was drunk, but it wasn't his fault. The bartender spiked his drink!
Prater, a freshman defensive back from Omaha, was charged with OWI at 1:22 a.m. in the 500 block of First Avenue in Coralville. Officers stopped him because his vehicle registration information was not visible from the rear. When officers approached him, according to official reports, Prater had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled strongly of alcohol. He failed field sobriety tests, including a preliminary breath test that registered at .134. His blood alcohol content was recorded at .127.Well, yes, Shaun, that's what happens when you ask the bartender for a Jack and coke. He pours a shot or two into the bottom of a glass filled with ice, then fills the rest with Coca-Cola. Frankly, when this happens I accuse the bartender of spiking my whiskey.
Prater told police his bartender "must have put alcohol in his Coca-Cola," the report said.
Also, considering that your blood-alcohol level was at .127, that means you drank a lot of cokes. You'd think you may have noticed that there was alcohol in them at some point.
