For Maryland's Sake Greivis Vasquez Must Stop Talking

Greivis Vasquez likes to talk. A lot.

And so far this season when he has run his mouth it has not worked out well for Maryland. You would think that maybe someone from the Maryland coaching staff, or perhaps one of his teammates, would simply tell him that he needs to shut up. Especially heading into the ACC tournament with the Terrapins on the backside of the bubble.

Of course, he had to say something before the ACC tournament to make sure the attention was on him.
He wants everyone to know that he will be testing the NBA draft waters after the season is over. In his mind, this is not any sort of distraction for him or the team.

Why would it be a distraction?

"Just to see where I am at, just to see who is going to be my competition," Vasquez said. "Probably Jeff Teague [of Wake Forest] will go to the camps because he thinks he is going to be a first-round pick. It will get me better, so if I come back I know what I will have to work on."

What distraction? Thinking about how you will compare to other guards. Looking to make it all about his own future. Why -- why would anyone think this could negatively impact the team. Especially when he says he might come back. That is if the situation works.

"If I come back, my goal is not going to be just to make the tournament," Vasquez said. "My goal is to win a national championship. But in the meantime, we've got to get Lance [Stephenson]. With a big-time scorer I can guarantee you a lot of things."

Yeah, no pressure coach Gary Williams, but bring in one of the top recruits in the country or I'm out of here.
