Matt Jones Released by Jags
Things got worse when Jones violated his plea agreement by getting drunk and was jailed for seven days. Jones was eventually released from prison but, unfortunately for him, he was "released" again today, only this time by the Jags.
This is a move that makes sense from the Jags' standpoint -- their two major needs on the offensive end heading into free agency were wide receiver and offensive line. They addressed the latter with the signing of Tra Thomas and now seem likely to roll the dice once again on a first round wideout.
This hasn't panned out well in the past with the selections of Reggie Williams, and, of course, Jones. Jeremy Maclin and Michael Crabtree seem to be less "ridiculous gamble" and more "tremendous upside potential," though, and the likelihood that one will be available, coupled with Jones' trouble, are two very logical reasons why this release makes sense.
