After losing Eric King and Chris Carr to free agency, the Titans have made it clear that they want to find a least one veteran cornerback to help out with depth. The only question is which veteran backup corner it will be.The Titans have brought in Donald Strickland and Demarcus Faggins for visits this week. Neither of them are guys who you'd want to start, but either could be a nickel/dime back who also contributes on special teams. In fact, its hard to find a whole lot of difference between the two.
Strickland's a six-year NFL vet, while Faggins has played seven seasons. Faggins has five career interceptions while Strickland has two, so neither is really a threat to push Cortland Finnegan for the team INT lead. Strickland is 5-10, 182 while Faggins is 5-10, 185, so neither is a threat to bowl over Maurice Jones-Drew either.
Faggins has been thrust into a fill-in starter role more often than Strickland. If you base it on their careers up to now, Faggins has been a slightly better player, but in this case it may be determined more by which player will agree to the better deal. This isn't going to be the kind of deal that wins a Super Bowl, but signing a decent veteran backup cornerback might allow the Titans to head in a different direction come draft day.
