If you're a prospective NFL draftee, there's are few experiences more nerve-wracking than waking up on the day of your pro day. You know that with a good performance, you're draft stock could skyrocket, but with a bad day, you could cost yourself millions of dollars.For Ball State quarterback Nate Davis, his Pro Day ended up being a disaster, but not because of anything he did. Instead, the issue was that only one team showed up to watch him work out, and that was the Colts, who only had a short drive to get over to Muncie. For a quarterback who opted to leave school early to enter the draft, it's hard to imagine a worse fate. The draft may be still a month away, but Davis has already been stood up.The knocks on Davis are his lack of height, the spread offense he put up his numbers in, and, according to NFL.com, a learning disability that leaves teams worried that he might struggle to pick up the playbook. Teams did get to see Davis at the scouting combine, so it's not as if they don't have a solid book on him, but it's hard to imagine an interested team not bothering to make it to his Pro Day.
The complete lack of interest is a little baffling, as Davis was thought to be in the middle of a pack of the "next wave" of QB prospects. While Matt Stafford, Mark Sanchez and Josh Freeman are thought to be first-round picks, the quarterback depth drops way off behind them. After leading Ball State to a 12-0 regular season record, Davis entered the draft thinking he would have a chance to take advantage of the lack of QB depth in this draft. Instead, he's now got to hope just to be drafted.
