The upcoming retirement of long-time NHL referee Don Koharski is the only excuse we need to post the video of his classic, infamous, and hilarious confrontation with former New Jersey Devils head coach Jim Schoenfeld.
Following the Devils loss to Boston in game 3 of the 1988 Eastern Conference Finals, Schoenfeld was livid with Koharski's officiating and proceeded to call him a "fat pig," while begging him to "have another donut." It's the signature moment of Koharski's 30+ year career, for better or worse.
According to head of officiating Stephen Walkom (via Lance Hornby of the London Free Press), when Koharski hangs up his skates in the coming weeks he could stay on as a supervisor or instructor. Koharski, 53, has worked over 2,000 games in his career, including one year in the now-defunct WHA as a linesman.
