Newsmakers in the NHL is a weekday morning attempt to clear yesterday's rebounds and look to the day ahead.

Canadiens 6, Thrashers 3:
For one night, all is well in Montreal as the Canadiens managed to put their epic collapse on hold, pulling out a convincing 6-3 win over the Atlanta Thrashers. Montreal received a five-point effort from Alex Tanguay and a two-goal performance from Alexei Kovalev, while Carey Price picked up the win in net.

With the win, Montreal claims sole possession of the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference, taking a two-point lead over idle Florida. Montreal bombarded Atlanta goalie Kari Lehtonen with a four-goal onslaught in the second period, while the Canadiens also went 3-for-6 on the power play.

Ducks 2, Predators 1:
Anaheim continues to roll toward a potential playoff spot thanks to its 2-1 shootout win in Nashville on Tuesday night. While a win in regulation would have been the desired outcome -- seeing as how the Ducks entered play just one point behind Nashville -- a win in any form is helpful. Jean-Sebastien Giguere earned No. 1 star honors by turning aside 31-of-32 shots, plus all four shots he faced in the shootout. Drew Miller scored the Ducks only goal in regulation, while Teemu Selanne scored the game-winner in the shootout. The two teams are now tied with 78 points, while the Ducks would hold the tie-breaker due to having more wins.

The Rest Of Tuesday's Action

Scott Gomez scores the game-winner in the Rangers 2-1 win over Minnesota.

Martin St. Louis lifts Tampa Bay over Columbus in overtime.

Vancouver gets two-goal efforts from Ryan Kesler and Henrik Sedin in its 5-2 win over Dallas.

Patrik Berglund scores the only two goals in St. Louis' 2-0 win over Los Angeles. Chris Mason stops 22 shots for the shutout.

The Red Wings score three goals in the third period on their way to a 3-2 win in Edmonton.

The Leafs beat Washington in a shootout, while Martin Gerber was ejected for making contact with an official.

-- The Wild could have used a win against the Rangers on Tuesday and look to get back on track when they take on the Islanders.
