With the win, Montreal claims sole possession of the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference, taking a two-point lead over idle Florida. Montreal bombarded Atlanta goalie Kari Lehtonen with a four-goal onslaught in the second period, while the Canadiens also went 3-for-6 on the power play.
Ducks 2, Predators 1: Anaheim continues to roll toward a potential playoff spot thanks to its 2-1 shootout win in Nashville on Tuesday night. While a win in regulation would have been the desired outcome -- seeing as how the Ducks entered play just one point behind Nashville -- a win in any form is helpful. Jean-Sebastien Giguere earned No. 1 star honors by turning aside 31-of-32 shots, plus all four shots he faced in the shootout. Drew Miller scored the Ducks only goal in regulation, while Teemu Selanne scored the game-winner in the shootout. The two teams are now tied with 78 points, while the Ducks would hold the tie-breaker due to having more wins.
