Terrell Owens' Excuse for Missing Bills' Workout? Alzheimer's Charity Award

Terrell Owens recently failed to show up at the Buffalo Bills' preseason voluntary workout. A lot of people -- myself included -- were unimpressed with the work ethic displayed, and questioned Owens' attitude.

Allow me to step forward for all of those people and formally apologize to Owens; it turns out that he missed the workout because he was at a National Alzheimers' Gala in Washington, D.C.
The star receiver is in Washington, D.C., attending the sixth annual National Alzheimer's Gala. He'll receive the Alzheimer's Association's first Young Champions Award on Wednesday night for raising awareness in the fight against the disease. Owens' grandmother has Alzheimer's.
So, yeah. Not only was Owens in D.C. presumably to help in the fight against a serious illness, but he was there to accept a freaking award for all the work he's done in raising awareness about Alzheimer's.

It's only because of the stereotypical viewpoint that most of us take about Owens -- and granted I'm still skeptical about the timing of this, but because I have family members who suffer from the same disease, I'm willing to cut him whatever slack necessary -- that we assumed he was just running roughshod over the Bills.

Maybe this year in Buffalo will be different. Or maybe not, and things end poorly. But on the bright side, they didn't start off as badly as we thought they did. Tip of the cap to T.O. on this one.
