Crosby Fights in Defense of Malkin

Sidney Crosby and the Florida Panthers have an infamous history of sorts, as the Penguins captain had a run-in with Brett McLean earlier this season. On Sunday, Crosby again found himself dropping the gloves with a member of the Panthers, as he squared off with defenseman Keith Ballard in the first period.

As Penguins center Evgeni Malkin was carrying the puck into the Florida zone along the boards, Ballard sent him somersaulting through the air with a hip check that would have made Darius Kasparaitis proud. As Malkin attempted to pick himself up off the ice, Crosby and Ballard decided to fight it out. Sort of.

Neither player really landed any major punches (Ballard attempted quite a few), while Crosby ended the tussle by tackling Ballard. Both players received five minutes for fighting, while Crosby picked up the extra two for unsportsmanlike conduct. Nice to see the playoff intensity picking up around the NHL.
