Aaron Curry Says the Lions Know Where He Stands

NEW YORK -- A story broke Wednesday night that the Detroit Lions, who have the No. 1 pick in this weekend's NFL draft, have worked out a contract with Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry in case they can't get a deal done with Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford before the draft begins.

But in an interview Thursday night at the premiere party for EA Sports' NCAA Football 10 video game, Curry said that's not exactly the case.

"I think I know how that started," Curry said. "Somebody asked me whether I would take Jake Long's contract from last year to be the No. 1 pick. And I said, 'Sure. Why not?' What's wrong with $30 million dollars? And so the Lions, they know that now."

Long got a five-year contract with $30 million in guaranteed money from the Dolphins last year when Miami selected him first overall. So the way Curry tells it, he was asked if he'd take the same deal if the Lions offered to make him this year's overall No. 1, and he said yes. So it's not as if his agent has worked out a deal with Detroit, just that the Lions know Curry would take that deal if it were offered to him.

"The Lions know that, if they can't come to terms, there's a pretty good player they can get for 2008 money," Curry said. "So that's all. And we'll see what happens."

Much more from Curry and a bunch of the other players (Mark Sanchez, Brian Orakpo, Brian Cushing, Michael Crabtree, Brian Johnson ... ) who were at the EA party will be running on FanHouse throughout the day Friday as we strive to serve your every pre-draft need.
