Scouting Report: Great size and athleticism. Excelled on a poor team, improving every year. Picks up blitzes well. Can sit in and protect off the corner, but also has ability to get downfield on running plays. Technique needs work, especially on running plays. Must add strength. Worked primarily out of a spread offense, keeping him in a two-point stance.
2009 Outlook: Any team selecting Smith will be hopeful that he can step in and start from day one at left tackle, a position of need for many clubs. He may be able to shift to guard for zone-blocking teams to get him in the lineup, but his future is on the outside.
