Fred Smoot is probably best known for his role in the Vikings sex boat scandal, but that incident shouldn't obscure the fact that he's eminently quotable. (Twitter was invented for Smoot. Why he isn't on it is one of life's great mysteries.) If you can get past the Mississippi accent, he's got the Andy Griffith homespun wisdom thing down pat. Well, if Andy Griffith was hyped up on SMACK Energy Bars.

Last season, Cap'n Smoot weighed in on his lifelong hatred of the Dallas Cowboys, and shared his thoughts on the NFL arbitrarily punishing players for various transgressions.

I mean, this is money: "If you really want to do something, stop everybody from using steroids that's using steroids, instead of worrying about how the hell I'm dressed when I walk out there and play. You know what I'm saying? Worry about stuff that count, like people getting paralyzed. Continue to take care of them, instead of leaving them alone as soon as they out the damn NFL."

Anyway, last weekend, Redskins third-round pick cornerback Kevin Barnes said that Smoot was "getting a little bit older." Which, naturally, prompted Smoot to respond.
"They come in like that until they go to three days of [minicamp], and [then] they humble," Smoot said. "It don't bother me. I'm going to take him through some things. I haven't seen the guy. I don't even know his name, and I love football, so that tells you [something]. I know who's going to get drafted where. I didn't know the kid."
I can't imagine Barnes meant anything by the comment, but that's not the point. Don't cross Smoot, especially when you've been a member of the Redskins for 18 hours. That's the point. On the upside, maybe this will all blow over since, you know, Smoot doesn't even know Barnes' name. And he follows the draft.
