WASHINGTON -- Here in Washington what was a hotly anticipated Game 7 has turned into a rout, as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Washington Capitals 6-2. Pittsburgh jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Sidney Crosby (on the power play) and Craig Adams only 18 seconds apart during a period where they outshot Washington 18-5.

After goals by Bill Guerin and Kris Letang in the second period made it 4-0, Washington head coach Bruce Boudreau had little choice but to lift rookie goalie Simeon Varlamov and replace him with Jose Theodore. Jordan Staal scored to make it 5-0 before Alex Ovechkin finally got Washington on the board inside of the last two minutes after Pittsburgh goalie Marc-Andre Fleury made his only mistake of the night on a misplay. Other than that, it's been total domination by the Penguins, and an absolute head scratcher by Washington.
