NFL Salary Cap Gets a Slight Bump

The NFL salary cap has reportedly increased for the second time this offseason, rising just under $1 million to a total $128 million. In February, the cap jumped from $123 to $127 million, just prior to free agency beginning.

The latest increase would have been held over until 2010, according to FOXSports.com, but there is currently no salary cap in place for next season, due to the expiration of the current collective bargaining agreement. The CBA will be a hot topic at the league's spring meetings in Florida, as a work stoppage is pending for the 2011 season if the league and players cannot reach a new deal.

This newest cap hike could pay dividends for teams still looking to sign free agents this offseason -- especially those that were already up against the previous cap number of $128 million.
