ORLANDO -- Lakers coach Phil Jackson admitted Tuesday night before the Game 3 that forward Pau Gasol should have been called for goaltending in the final second of regulation Sunday night, which would have given the Orlando Magic a game-winning basket in Game 2.Magic rookie Courtney Lee missed the final layup in regulation, sending the game into overtime, which the Lakers won, giving them a 2-0 series lead. On Lee's shot, coming from an inbounds pass from Hedo Turkoglu with :0.6 remaining, Gasol clearly hit both the net and the rim when trying to block it.
"Yeah, he got his hand caught in the rim in that one, no doubt about it,'' Jackson said. "That's basket interference, according to the rules.''
Magic coach Stan Van Gundy was asked about Jackson's comments but didn't want to get into any kind of debate. Jackson's comments just made the Magic feel worse about losing Game 2.
"Look, I'm not going to get into calls. Calls didn't decide that game,'' Van Gundy said just before Game 3. "I don't think his hand being there or not being there had anything to do with the shot going in, or not going in.''
