Hours after the death of boxing great Alexis Arguello, his greatest rival in the ring, Aaron Pryor, recalled Arguello as a great champion.

"It was a great fight we had," Pryor told The Associated Press. "This was a great champion."

Arguello and Pryor fought twice, a controversial classic in 1982 and a rematch that Pryor dominated in 1983. That 1982 fight is best remembered for a controversy over allegations that Pryor's corner man gave him water mixed with a stimulant after the 13th round. Pryor won by technical knockout in the 14th round.

HBO did a great show on the Pryor-Arguello fight as part of its Legendary Nights series; part 1 above and parts 2 and 3 below are well worth half an hour of your time.
