As if Cleveland wasn't already a focal point of the NBA universe, it may be reaching a whole new level of crazy. A brand of crazy NBA fans only know as ... Ron Artest. The Cleveland Plain Dealer was the first to report on the possibility, but even coming from super-reliable Brian Windhorst, it was still just your run of the mill free agency rumor; a possibility to keep an eye on.
That was until Artest decided to fan the flames a bit by informing the world that his days in Houston were over -- via his Twitter page, naturally.

Cute, right? The problem was, no one knew if Artest was pulling a Kevin Love and giving us some kind of scoop, or if he was going the Amar'e Stoudemire route and just trying to be funny.
A couple of hours later, he was still sticking to the script.
"i just signed my deal. we ballin tonight. champagne on me"
And that one was followed with, "I'm signing my new deal as I'm Twittin'.." and "I'm Sooo Happy (Tears comin' Down My Face.)"
Any close follower of the NBA was likely becoming a bit skeptical at this point. The clue that this was all a joke was the fact that Artest was using some form of the word "sign" in these little messages. Since the league has a moratorium on free agent signings until July 8, Artest -- as I replied to him at the time -- wasn't able to sign a damn thing. At least as far as new NBA deals go.
Artest went on a local Sacramento radio station shortly after this Twitter-mania went down, and admitted that he was just messing with people. The deal he signed had something to do with music, and nothing to do with basketball.
Before this little diversion began, there was the very real information about the Cavaliers contacting Artest to express their interest on Tuesday, with LeBron James himself making the case to Artest in person in Los Angeles. The Celtics and Lakers are rumored to be interested to some degree as well, along with (of course) Artest's current team, the Rockets.
But rumors of interested teams carry only so much excitement; a wild goose chase on a public social media platform is much more entertaining, right? Besides, wherever Artest does end up signing will become fact soon enough. Until then, all we can do is follow the man's Twitter feed and hope that when the real deal does go down, that we'll be among the first to know.
