Richard Jefferson and Kesha NicholsDespite having her name in the tabloid headlines for a week, Kesha Ni'Cole Nichols waited until Wednesday before finally making the rounds with the media, re-living her broken engagement to Richard Jefferson while attempting to dispel several rumors about the whole ordeal.

Jefferson has been widely ridiculed for his decision to call off the engagement via e-mail, but as Nichols admitted during an interview with Extra, the e-mail merely confirmed a conversation the couple started the previous night.

"We had pretty much decided we were going to call the wedding off but just wanted one night apart to really reflect and think about everything... When I got here [New York] Monday, I found the email that pretty much said what we had talked about before. I wasn't in shock."

As Nichols revealed in an interview with Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America, Nichols and Jefferson did talk at length after the e-mail.

"After the e-mail we did talk for a few hours and just made sure that we were both at peace with what was going to happen," Nichols said. "I'll always care about him. He was my best friend for five years, so I have no hard feelings towards Richard at all."

Nichols also admitted to receiving an undisclosed sum of money following the breakup, though she described it as a parting gift to help her get back on her feet. "I was making six figures before I met Richard and I'll be making more after Richard," she told Extra. "It's just a stepping-stone to make sure I'm going to be okay... I just want the world to know that I'm not a gold digger."
