Tiger Woods Commits to Buick Open

News broke on Thursday that Tiger Woods will be playing next week at the Buick Open, which is surprising on a number of fronts.

First, Tiger's schedule is pretty cemented during the year, so a visit to the Buick Open, which he hasn't played in since 2006, is surprising. Second, Woods never plays three tournaments in a row, especially before a major. Being in the field at Warwick Hills means Tiger will most likely play three straight weeks, following the Buick with the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the PGA Championship.

The good news is Woods is going to a tournament he has succeeded at in the past. Tiger has won it twice, in 2002 and '06, at a combined 41-under par. I also think this is something Tiger has needed to do for a while. I think everyone can agree that Turnberry was Tiger's stuff hitting the fan. He struggled with a golf swing that is put together by band-aids at this point (and the wind didn't help), and sometimes, in golf, the best solution is to play it out.

Tiger tends to fix his problems on the range in between tournaments, but if he wants to contend at Hazeltine, I think this is the best decision.
