Could Red Sox Be Jumping Into Roy Halladay Race?

A person from a third team guessed that the Red Sox would "swoop in" and get Roy Halladay from the Blue Jays before Friday's trade deadline. And perhaps Boston is getting involved.

The Red Sox were holding high-level meetings Monday, and one team official told FanHouse, "Something is going on."

As another Boston person said, "We're not going to let an impact player be moved without investigating."

Boston might need rotation help. Daisuke Matsuzaka and Tim Wakefield are on the disabled list and John Smoltz is 1-4 with a 7.04 ERA. But it will take a lot for Boston to get Halladay.

As one Toronto person put it, "We've got to get every last good guy you have, or we're not trading him."

Philadelphia has been believed to be the best fit for Halladay, and the pitcher's first choice. But the Phillies have not been willing to give up lefty J.A. Happ along with minor-league right-hander Kyle Drabek.
