Reports began to surface on Tuesday that legendary forward Jeremy Roenick is set to announce his retirement on Thursday.

One of the best American-born players ever, the nine-time All-Star will finish his career with 513 goals, 703 assists, and 1,216 points as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks, Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks. And for us video game junkies? He'll also be remembered as one of the most dominant cyber-athletes to ever be digitally captured with 16-bit graphics.

In April, 2008, IGN named Roenick's appearance in NHL '93 as the No.4 video game athlete performance ever, trailing on Michael Vick in Madden 2004, Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl, and Mike Tyson in Mike Tyson's Punch Out The first two are no-brainers, in my opinion. Vick in Madden '04? Better than Roenick? I'm not convinced.

Just for laughs, here's a rather incredible YouTube tribute to Roenick's video game dominance.
