On Thursday at Firestone Country Club, Tiger Woods showed us two things very important to his 2009. First, that he is the only man on the planet who could break 70 (by two shots!) hitting his driver like he did. Woods continued to block his driver right, hitting just 39 percent of the fairways, but was able to scramble around the course for a 2-under 68. Second, he showed why, at times, he's been very un-Woods like.

On Friday, the driver came around (Tiger managed to hit 50 percent of his fairways) but his putter abandoned him, leading to Tiger's second round 70. The six-time winner of the Bridgestone Invitational, Tiger has only shot par or worse twice when he hoisted the trophy, averaging a 67.1 on Fridays at Firestone.

Woods, at 2-under for the tournament, hasn't been able to get the ball in the hole this week. Averaging nearly 4.2 birdies per round, Tiger has only been able to snag five over the first 36 holes, burning lip after lip from 10-12 feet. If he wants to claim his second victory in a row, and head to Hazeltine looking for the turkey leg, he will have to find a way to drop these putts that just won't go home.

A three-putt on the par-5 second hole (a hole Phil Mickelson eagled early in his second round) didn't help the cause.

Still, at 2-under he is only five shots back of current leader Padraig Harrington and Prayad Marksaeng, so as long as the afternoon guys don't crush the course, he will be in a position familiar for Woods ... one good round away from the final group.
