Looking to cycle spot-starters each day? Check out the Stream Team, where we tab pitchers that are likely to help you in your quest for fantasy gold. After giving the Team three quality starts, Brett Anderson didn't have his best stuff working last night, giving up seven runs in five innings against the White Sox. It seems there's no middle ground for us in August; our spot-starter either pitches well and gets a quality start and a win (nine of each in August), or he gets completely rocked and ruins our ratios. Between Nick Blackburn, Manny Parra and now Anderson, this was likely a week where the Team ruined any shot of winning ERA and WHIP.
Hopefully we can put together a couple wins and double-digit strikeouts over the weekend to mitigate the damage a bit. Tom Gorzelanny pitches against the Pirates today.
Since the All-Star Break, the San Francisco Giants have scored 87 runs in 27 games (a 3.2 run-per-game average) while posting a .659 OPS. Take just the last seven days, and the Giants' offense has been even worse, crossing the plate just 13 times in six games, while putting together a .219/.282/.344 line for a .626 OPS. They'll go on the road (where they have a .649 OPS, lowest in the majors) to play the Mets on Sunday.
Mike Pelfrey gets the start for New York and for the Stream Team. He pitches far better in the friendly confines of CitiField, going 4-3 with a 4.00 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 41/22 K/BB ratio at home. By contrast, the Mets righty has a 5.93 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 31/25 K/BB ratio on the road. Pelfrey has had two post-ASB home starts against two pretty hot offenses (Arizona and Colorado), and he combined to give up just three runs in 11.1 innings in those starts.
Unlike many of the guys I suggest in this space, Pelfrey is the typical spot-starter, a guy you only want to pick up for this one start. If you do decide to roll the dice with Pelfrey in the hopes of nabbing a win and a handful of strikeouts, I would suggest cutting him after tomorrow's game, regardless of the results.Stream Team Data
