Jason Williams may get his wish after all.Williams, the veteran point guard who sat out last season after announcing his retirement and then changing his mind, has been trying to work his way back into the league this summer.
He worked out for teams earlier this month in Memphis and New York, and Tuesday he worked out for the Magic in Orlando, which is where he has been making his offseason home.
Williams has told friends that his first choice would be playing in his adopted hometown, where his wife and children have been living. The Magic already have starter Jameer Nelson and veteran backup Anthony Johnson under contract.
Williams, 33, last played in Miami during the 2007-08 season when the Heat won just 15 games. He struggled with sore knees. He signed a one-year contract to play last season with the Clippers, but then changed his mind and announced his retirement. The Clippers renounced his rights earlier this summer, making him a free agent again.
The Magic were trying to work a sign-and-trade deal for Golden State's restricted free agent C.J. Watson, who is considerably younger (25) but those talks have stalled. Williams played for Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy in Miami. He also was the starting point guard for the Heat when they won the NBA title in 2006, the season Van Gundy was replaced by Pat Riley.
"There's nothing out there yet,'' said Dan Tobin, Williams agent Tuesday afternoon.
