Jermaine GreshamAll-American tight end Jermaine Gresham reportedly won't be available for Oklahom'as Saturday night's season opener against No.20 BYU, according to mutliple media outlets in Oklahoma.

But the news could get worse if Gresham requires season-ending surgery, as KWTV speculated could be a possibility on its Web site.

The loss of Gresham could be a huge blow to the Sooners and Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Sam Bradford as they look to win their fourth straight Big 12 championship. But according to reports out of Norman, no determination on the extent of the injury sustained during Wednesday night's practice has been determined. OU head coach Bob Stoops or anyone from the school has made a comment on Gresham's injury or the possibility he will not play Saturday in the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington, Texas.

His immediate loss does send the Sooners into a bit of a scramble, however, with the game just two days away. Backup tight end Brody Eldridge is slated to start at center against the Cougars. That leaves the likely stand-ins at tight end as 6-foot-4, 243-pound sophomore James Hanna or 6-3, 225 sophomore walk-on Trent Ratterree.

Gresham is expected to be a big part of the Sooners' offensive plans this season. He passed up an opportunity to go to the NFL as a high draft pick this past season to return to Oklahoma for his senior year. Gresham, who is 6-foot-6, 261 pounds, is the Sooners top returning receiver after catching 66 balls for 950 yards and 14 touchdowns last season.
