Lawyer MilloyEven though Saturday was NFL cut-down day, it didn't stop the Seahawks and Broncos from picking a couple big names off the free-agent market. Seattle signed 13-year veteran safety Lawyer Milloy, while Denver came to terms with defensive end Vonnie Holliday.

Terms of Milloy's deal were not immediately released, but Seattle released starting free safety Brian Russell -- a major disappointment after getting a big five-year deal in 2007 -- to make room on their roster. Milloy, 35, will need some time to get assimilated in Seattle, but he'll jump into the starting lineup once he does.

Despite his age, Milloy has been incredibly durable in his NFL career, starting every game he's played since 1997 and sitting out just five contests in that time.

Over in Denver, the Broncos found themselves shorthanded up front after Le Kevin Smith -- an addition via trade from New England this offseason -- suffered a knee injury. Holliday started 15 games, and played all 16, in Miami last season where he's been for the last four seasons.

Getty ImagesHe underwent an extended search for a new home this summer, though. Holliday did have 3 1/2 sacks last season -- and seven just three years ago -- and his Denver could slide him anywhere on the line.

"He's versatile so he can play wherever the team decides to play him," Holliday's agent, Cary Fabrikant, told the Denver Post. "He's an extremely talented player who's been a starter for long periods of time. He's familiar with the defense."

Both players are upgrades for their respective teams, even if they start out a bit down the depth chart. It's a little surprising, to be honest, that Milloy and Holliday sat around for this long. Detroit did make a run at Milloy a couple of weeks ago, but that feel through. But the Lions' loss is the Seahawks' gain -- and Denver definitely took advantage of everyone's hesitation on Holliday.
