PITTSBURGH -- Five-time Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu was not seen in the Steelers locker room after their overtime victory over the Titans on Thursday night, because he was busy getting treatment on a sprained MCL in his left knee.

Polamalu was injured late in the first half when the Steelers' Aaron Smith blocked Titans kicker Rob Bironas on a 31-yard field goal attempt. In a pileup for the loose ball, at least one player landed on Polamalu's left leg as he did the splits, causing his knee to buckle. He left the field on his own power but didn't return to the game and wasn't on the sideline the entire second half.

Polamalu will undergo further tests on Friday to determine long-term damage.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Polamalu could miss three-to-six weeks, but Tomlin didn't mince words when asked if the injury could be worse.

"I'm sure there is a possibility of it, but I don't have any concrete evidence that there is anything more than that," Tomlin said.

Several Steelers players said Polamalu was walking around the locker room after the game, but they understood the severity of the injury.

"It's one thing about last year, when you build a 53-man roster, you have to have depth," receiver Hines Ward said. "Coach Tomlin gave us the weekend off and, hopefully, that will give Troy some time to get healthy and whatnot. If he's unable to play, guys got to fill in and step up."

Polamalu suffered a knee injury in the 2007 season as well, missing three games. This time, he may be gone a little longer.

"It is speculation at this point," Tomlin said.
