Rodney King Fights Cop in 'Celebrity' Boxing Match

Eighteen years ago, a group of Los Angeles cops beat the crap out of Rodney King. The officers were acquitted of any wrongdoing, and the verdict triggered the 1992 L.A. riots.

Yesterday, in the name of making a few bucks -- and having absolutely nothing to do with retribution -- King beat the crap out of a former Philadelphia-area policeman in a pay-per-view "celebrity" boxing match.
At least those are the reports; for some weird reason, the results of the fight haven't yet been announced.

Either way, King, 43, outlasted some dude named Simon Aouad, 31, who was fired 17 months into his job with the Chester, PA police force for, according to the Independent, "following a 'shoot first, ask questions later' policy with regard to an intruder on his property."

While promoting the match, Aouad promised King that, "I'm going to beat you so bad, Rodney, you're going to wish you were back in LA. I broke bones for a living every day." Maybe he meant after the fight.

King, meanwhile, didn't take the spectacle quite so seriously: "I know some people will see the irony here... But I would have fought anyone who was worthy. I take this very seriously. Never felt better, physically and in the mind."

And by "worthy" King obviously means "had the biggest payout."
