There's a minuscule chance that Viking receiver Percy Harvin doesn't own a television. Or a computer. Or a subscription to some print-based media. If that's the case, then he may not have known that Brett Favre loves football. Possibly more deeply than any man has ever loved.
Not to worry. Ol' Number Four cleared all that up with one classically Favreian end-zone celebration. And as Favre dropped Harvin on the seat of his pants, the message was clear: Boy is this guy having fun!
"I thought we were going to bump chests or something," said Harvin [the recipient of a six-yard TD pass from Favre]. "He wasn't slowing down. I took it and we fell to the ground. It was a great feeling. You don't find too many players like that who still love the game. The video evidence will charm your pants off.
"That's what makes him special and separates him from a lot of people. For him to be that old -- he's got a daughter my age -- and still has a love for the game, going to meetings and all that stuff. He's by himself."
Alas, Harvin wasn't the only person to receive a crash course in all things Favre. Amazingly, the topic led off the post-game press conference.
Q: Have you ever played with a running back as explosive as Adrian Peterson or tackled a wide receiver after he scored (as he did with Percy Harvin)? So sure, Favre refrained from his gunslinging ways (seriously, zero picks?) in his Vikings debut. Doesn't matter. His passion is impervious to his new role as "The guy who gives Adrian Peterson the ball."
A: "I haven't played with a running back like that. The guy's pretty awesome, I guess is an understatement. And, yes, I have tackled a lot of guys. You must be new."
And you know what, good for him.
