Brandt Snedeker's 4-Putt Costs 6 Figures, Major Invites

A year and a half and a handful of strokes have defined Brandt Snedeker's career. It's not fair, but sometimes perception carries more weight than it should.

Snedeker is probably best remembered for his 2008 Masters performance. Specifically, his blubbering post-round presser after he missed out on a shot at a green jacket. And now there's this, from last week's BMW Championship: a four-putt from 12 feet on the 72nd hole.

Alone, it's just an embarrassing rarity in the life of a PGA Tour pro. In context, however, it's much, much worse. Via Devil Ball Golf (via ESPN.com's Bob Harig):

• $100,000 by falling from a T-8 to a T-10 in the BMW standings.

• At least $120,000, the take for the last-place finisher in the Tour Championship.

• $175,000, the bonus for anybody competing in the FedEx Cup.

• Guaranteed invitations to the Masters, British Open and U.S. Open next year.

At this point, Snedeker could probably use a break from Augusta National, so we'll just call that a silver lining. And to his credit, Brandt was brutally honest about his BMW Championship finish:

"I just started thinking about the wrong things, man; I didn't concentrate over the bogey putt and I was thinking about all the stuff the Tour Championship comes with, and I did everything you're not supposed to do. I'm sure Doc [Bob] Rotella and I will have a nice long talk tonight and he'll tell me everything I did wrong and we'll learn from it."

I mean, what do you say? The guy played 71 holes of solid golf and in the time it takes to navigate 12 feet in four strokes, everything changed for Snedeker. At least he ~~is not from Nashville~~ didn't cry.
