As R.J. White said last week when he wrote his fantasy football predictions for the kicker position, kicking performances are very hard to predict. Neil Rackers, who R.J. thought would be a top-5 kicker finished as the top ranked kicker in Week 1. Jason Elam, also a top-5 prediction, missed two field goals and an extra point and still finished eighth. R.J.'s other top-5 predictions -- well, they didn't pan out so well. It's really hit or miss with kickers.Let's look into the crystal ball and see about Week 2 for kickers:

• Jason Elam has been participating in practice, but it's been in a limited capacity as he's suffering from a hamstring issue. If Elam is your kicker you'll need to really keep an eye on the rest of his practice sessions and the injury reports. If he's not playing on Sunday, you have to go out and replace him. Either drop some dead weight and run with an extra kicker for one week until Elam is healthy or dump Elam and play match-up kickers. Any kicker facing Detroit or Kansas City is usually a good choice.
• Speaking of facing Detroit, John Carney benefited from six New Orleans touchdowns in week 1. Minnesota should also light up the scoreboard as they get the Lions this week. Expect good things from Ryan Longwell.
• The Oakland offense isn't exactly the model of consistency. However, they did put up 20 points against a pretty hefty San Diego defense. Oakland plays Kansas City in week 2 and as hefty as the Charger's defense is, the Chiefs defense is wimpy, wimpy, wimpy.
